After a pleasant ride in our comfortable vehicles, passing the small towns of Pedara and Nicolosi and cold lava fields formed over the years, you will reach the “Rifugio Sapienza Etna”. Here the Emotion Etna 3000 m begins.
By cable car you will reach an altitude of 2500 m and will eventually get up to 2900 m by special unimog vehicles. The area you will find yourself in now, is called “Torre del Filosofo” at the foot of the main crater. From here you will have a stunning view over the Mediterranean, if weather permitting.
A competent guide will accompany you during a approx. 40 minutes tour, visiting the hot smoking craters, born after the 2002-2003 eruption.
Back at Rifugio Sapienza, you’ll have a traditional Sicilian lunch in a typical restaurant.
Afterwards the tour ends with the visit of a real lava cave equipped with helmets and torches.
Daily Etna Tours to the highest volcano in Europe. We will pick you up at your accommodation in Sicily with our limousines or minivans (Mercedes E Class, Mercedes Vito, Mercedes V Class, Mercedes Sprinter, etc.) and head in direction Mount Etna. During our comfortable drive up to the volcano, we will make several stops to visit some of the most beautiful sites on Mount Etna by foot, accompanied by our English-speaking guide at all time.
The half-day excursion includes an easy walk to the impressive “Sartorius Crater”. Wandering through old and new lava flows, walking on extinct craters and equipped with helmets and flashlights you will enjoy an unforgettable experience visiting a real lava cave, where ice was produced centuries ago.
Our English-speaking guide will show you the variety of plants and animals that populate our active volcano. While walking through ancient forests you will learn a lot about Mount Etna vegetation and wildlife. The last stop of our half-day tour are the cold lava streams at Piano Provenzana, which had been destroyed during the last big eruption.
If you book a full day trip, you will have the same morning programme as on the half-day tour but will also enjoy typical Sicilian food at a chalet and visit the famous Alcantara Gorges, which were formed millions of years ago on the north side of the volcano. Between the lava flows a small mountain river. Here you can walk barefoot in the crystal clear and ice cold water of the canyon or (in the summer) have a refreshing swim.
On the way to the canyon we will pass the idyllic Sicilian mountain village Castiglione di Sicilia and in the distance, situated on a slope, we will see Motta Camastra.
At the end of the tour we will drive you back to your accommodation.
